DK Fabrications, Ltd. is a successful family-owned business that was created in 2001 to meet the need for Engineered Stone Fabricators on Long Island. The Principles at DK Fabrications have over 20 years experience combined in research, development, and marketing in the retail and commercial food industries. It was a natural progression to take that experience and expertise and apply to where they saw a growing need and a potentially untapped market place.

"The consumer wanted a material to use in their home that was esthetically pleasing, maintenance free, and environmentally safe for food preparation. Engineered Stone addresses all of the issues that the consumer had. The problem was that it was very difficult to have the product fabricated. The only people capable of fabricating Engineered Stone were the Granite Fabricators. Since we believe that Engineered Stone is the product of choice for the future, we became determined to fabricate it and offer it to the public at a fair price.”  

Engineered quartz as a kitchen countertop surface emerged as the favorite in a comparison test, published in the April 2002 Good Housekeeping.

After testing the impact of hot skillets, sharp knives, and spills from wine and tomato sauce, the study reported that the engineered quartz kept its brand-new shiny surface while other products—natural stones, butcher blocks, traditional solids, and laminates were scorched, cut, and stained to a varying degree.

The runner-up was Granite.
